Do you believe in life after death? Bertrand Russell, an atheist philosopher wrote “I believe that when I die I shall rot, and nothing of my own ego will survive.” On the other hand our Lord Jesus said that there is life after death. He said that we would be reunited with him after we die if we believed in Him. He proved that He had ultimate power over death by rising up three days after his crucifixion.
The belief of life after death varies from religion to religion. Some believe in the concept while some detest it. Christians believe in this concept strongly. At least they should because that is what the Lord taught us. Hindus believe in the concept of rebirth. They believe that when a person dies, his/her soul re-enters another body and continues to live. The Hindus also believe in seven lives. They say that a soul completes a cycle of seven lives. They say that when a soul finishes it’s seven lives that’s when it attains Nirvana depending on the sins or good that it has done in those seven lives.
Now there are verses in the Bible which clearly state that Jesus appeared to his disciples after he died, not in the spirit form but in the flesh. There is a verse that states that Thomas, one of His disciples touched him and knew that he was alive and not a ghost. Now this is a belief that the entire Christian community rests on. It can be termed as the foundation stone of Christianity. Jesus Christ was crucified and rose up after three days. This in itself is a message that proves that there is life after death. However there are skeptics who don’t believe in this theory. Science doesn’t accept this. Science says that once a person dies his/her body rots in the ground or is burnt and the ashes are returned to the earth. But then, as the Bible says, ashes to ashes dust to dust. The mention of life after death in the Bible is not for the physical body but the soul. This is my belief. If you differ, please do comment and I will get back to you.Image by jscreationzs
